 Larry Shuler, Associate Pastor/Administrator

Larry Shuler, has served in a variety of roles at First Baptist Church Lakeside since joining the staff in October 1988. As Associate Pastor/Administrator, he’s involved in every aspect of keeping our church running smoothly...especially the day-to-day affairs and ‘business end’ of things like planning, financial, facilties, staffing, and educational programs. He also performs duties such as premarital counseling, helping the poor of our community and ministering to our church family in times of need.

Larry graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and also served as the Minister of Education, Music and Youth at First Baptist Church of Garrison, TX from 1982-1988.

Also, Larry has been known to enjoy a good banana pudding from time to time...it’s his favorite at church luncheons and picnics (and any other time).

Larry and his wife Rita have three children, Keri (and husband John), Brady and Micah.
Q&A with Bro. Larry...

Favorite thing about First Baptist Lakeside:
The loving spirit of God’s people at FBCL

Proudest moments in your career/life:
The night my youngest son was saved because everyone in my family was now saved. Also April 29, 1984 is a special day because that’s the day my wife, Rita, made her first public testimony in front of the whole church.

Favorite Bible passage and why?
Joshua 1 (After Moses’ death, the Lord commands Joshua to lead the Israelites across the Jordan River into the Promised Land, and vows ‘never to leave or forsake His people if they remain faithful to Him)...because I am one that depends on God’s strength and He promises that He will give it to me.

One piece of advice you have for the world?
Peace comes only through a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Other than the Bible, what books would you recommend to others?
An oldie but a goodie: “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie
“Confronting Casual Christianity” by Dr. Charles Stanley

What else?

I love life. There are a million things I want to do. I love my family and am very proud of all of them. I love my church. Most of all, though, I love my Lord...because of Him
